Course Aim: To introduce you to the concepts of optical fibre cabling, so that you understand the different forms of fibre optic cable, gain an understanding of the propagation of light through the fibre and to understand the various connection and splicing methods of optical fibre and where they are used in installations thru industry.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course each delegate will be able to:
* Fully understand how light is propagated and how it is transmitted via optical fibre cable.
* Describe the light sources used for optical fibre transmission.
* Understand the various types of fibre and when each is used.
* Understand the construction of optical fibre cable.
* Be conversant with the various types of jointing and termination methods involving fibre optic cables.
* Identify the different types of fibres available.
* Perform a fusion splice in fibre.
* Install the various types of connectors on optical fibre fibre cable.
* Test a splice and interpret the results on OTDR Fibre tester.
* Utilise the various types of splicing and test equipment.
* Demonstrate all safety requirements required when working with optical fibre.
* Understand the different components used in a simple fibre network.

General Conditions
Cancellation of booking less than 14 days prior to commencement of the course will attract a 50% administration charge.
No refunds will be payable after course commencement.
Milcom reserves the right to cancel, postpone or vary course dates or venues.
Milcom reserves the right to allow delegates a “once only” transfer between courses, venues or dates. Further transfers will incur an administration fee. Contact the office for fee information.
Dress code: Courses are conducted in a simulated work environment; therefore students must be attired appropriately. Closed shoes/boots only. No sandals or thongs. Students wearing sandals or thongs will not be allowed into the course.
Students arriving late will not be allowed into class.
