Course Aim:
This is an Information Technology industry introductory course and is designed for those with basic knowledge of PC use, telecommunications installers, and PBX system technicians. The course includes detailed student notes that form an invaluable reference library after the course. There are a number of labs during the course for positive reinforcement of the objectives.
 
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course the delegate will be able to;

Have a basic understanding of network design and IP traffic requirements.
Perform primary network troubleshooting.
Build a small network running IP Telephony
Define the characteristics of LAN and WAN with consideration to voice
Be familiar with LAN components Client, Host, Application Server
Have an understanding of the operation of Ethernet
Have an understanding of Internet Protocols (IP) and IP addressing
Know the function of network design elements - Hubs, Routers, Switches
Describe WAN carrier interfaces and the use of modems
Have an understanding of QoS, IPv6, IPSec
Optimising Voice traffic over IP networks – Packet loss delay and jitter
Describe WAN carrier interfaces
Define Intranet and Internet and the use of Gateways and Firewalls

Students must bring their Laptop computers that are network enabled with windows XP.

  • Cancellation of booking less than 14 days prior to commencement of the course will attract a 50% administration charge.
  • No refunds will be payable after course commencement.
  • Milcom reserves the right to cancel, postpone or vary course dates or venues.
  • Milcom reserves the right to allow delegates a “once only” transfer between courses, venues or dates. Further transfers will incur an administration fee. Contact the office for fee information.
  • Dress code: Courses are conducted in a simulated work environment; therefore students must be attired appropriately. Closed shoes/boots only. No sandals or thongs. Students wearing sandals or thongs will not be allowed into the course.
  • Students arriving late will not be allowed into class.
  • You are not booked into a course until you receive confirmation from Milcom
